The Accordion Man! The number 4 train! What a crowd! We were packed like sardines in a can and people breathing on me & I on them A man comes on the train & has no pole to put his hand on so he wont fall when the train stops and goes...so he raises his hands to the ceiling of the number 4 train...What a concept! And as I casually watched him, (I was informed by my NY friends not to stare or talk to anyone on the train unless you are lost) with both hands above his head...it worked! It was so crowded and in comes "The Accordion Man!" A man of 60ish with an accordion staped to his body with a cup on his strap of the accordion (for donations) and eyes of haze and blindness and one eye went up & the other was not working....Suddenly in all the squeezing through people, he starts to play his accordion, and when he moved his arms in and out as to play the accordion, he ended up hitting people with his arms.....Oh No! The people were shouting in Spanish and English to "STOP, SIR, STOP" But the accordion man kept on playing & bumping into people with his elbows...so 2 very young gentlemen, took the man by the elbows, VERY GENTLY!!!!! and said "You have to leave at the next stop" The 2 young men were really kind to "The Accordion Man!" and the doors opened and they escorded him out of train number 4... and there is more...suddenly, almost weekly, I have come across more accordion info....like I was looking through New York Time Out magazine and there was an article on the only Accordion store in New York!!! Then on WOR am radio, as I listened to Joey Reynolds show early morning like around 3 am...he had on 2 New York accordion players...ok, that's not all, now I go shopping into BJs wholesale and see "My first accordion!" A little accordion!!!! Must be a sign of something....maybe I shouldn't have sold mine...could be a new field for me...maybe???!!! |
