I
actually saw and met Chuck live on a Jazz Cruise in New York City in August 1999.
Chuck has alot of good energy which he illuminates through his music. You can really tell
how he plays from his whole heart and soul. I would recommend seeing him live if you like
his music-experience it with him...and yes, I did take these photos......Tiger

Chuck Mangione (Charles Frank Mangione) waa born on November 29, 1940 in
Rochester, New York. Chuck began his love of music at 8yrs old with piano lessons and then
chose the trombone at 10yrs. old.
At the beginning of his career, he played at Italian & Jewish
weddings.
People began to become aware of the energy that was exerted from Chuck
when he was first in a band The Jazz Brothers-with his older brother Gap,a piano played
while Chuck played trumpet. While in the band, Chuck attended the Eastman School of Music
and created his first solo album. Later on he returned to the Eastman School of Music as
Director of the school's Jazz Ensemble. His "Friends & Love" concert with
the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra was recorded live and featured "Hill Where the
Lord Hides." This led to his first recording contract with a major label, Mercury
Records, and his first Grammy nomination.
Mangione signed with A&M Records and two successful releases
in one year - "Chase the Clouds Away," which was used as background music during
the telecast of the 1976 Olympic Games; and "Bellavia" ("Beautiful
way"), named to honor his mother, which won Mangione his first Grammy award.
During
the late 1970's Chuck received more awards and accolades for his recordings. The
"Children of Sanchez" Double-album soundtrack won the Hollywood Foreign press
Association's Golden Globe Award, then earned Mangione a second Grammy award.
"Feels So Good", The 1980 Mangione entry in Current Biography called
"Feels So Good" the most recognizable melody since the Beatles'
"Michelle."
In 1980, a television audience of several hundred million absorbed Chuck's
"Give It All You Got" was heard around the world as the theme of the Winter
Olympics in Lake Placid.
Mangione
was also busy with personal projects during the early 1980s. He hosted an 8-hour concert
featuring jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie and Chick Corea, which benefited the Italian
Earthquake Relief Fund. Chunck's humanitarian concerns also included work with the Special
Olympics and the Blind Veterans Organization, for which he received an award.
In 1989, Chuck released two live albums, "The Boys from
Rochester," Featuring Steve gadd, Gap Mangione, Joe Romano and Frank Pullara, plus a
double album, "Chuck Mangione Live at the Village Gate." Following these
releases, and more than 25 years of one-nighters around the world, Chuck stopped playing.
For
three years, "I didn't listen to music. I laid down, I read paperback books, I
watched sports and I went fishing ." says Chuck. He also met and married Rosemarie,
"Slow Ro," as he affectionately calls her.
In 1994, Chuck scheduled activity that included recording sessions for new
albums, a series of night club performances by himself and other jazz favorites featuring
afternoon matinees for under-21 listeners, and a major orchestra concert with four dates
in Upstate New York. Twenty percent of the profits from these four concerts went toward a
$1 million endowment fund established to honor his father, Papa Mangione, and Dizzy
Gillespie at the Rochester School of the Arts.
Chuck
still lives in Rochester, New York, in the same neighborhood as his parents, Frank and
Nancy his brother gap, and sister Josephine
